Screw oil press vs. hydraulic oil press: What are the differences?

Many oil mill investors face a dilemma when choosing an oil press: should they choose a screw oil press or a hydraulic oil press ? Both types of equipment are commonly used in the cold pressing process for edible oils, but they differ significantly in their applicable oils, oil yields, investment costs, and operating methods. Failure to understand these differences can negatively impact your mill's production efficiency and product quality.

There are significant differences between the two devices in terms of their working principles:

1. Screw oil press

The rotating screw shaft continuously pushes the oil forward, generating a strong extrusion force to squeeze out the oil.

Applicable oilseeds: soybeans, rapeseed, sunflower seeds, peanuts, cotton seeds, corn germ and other common bulk oilseeds.

Applicable scenarios: large oil processing plants, continuous production lines

Main advantages: continuous operation, high oil yield, strong adaptability, low maintenance cost

Investment cost: High cost-effectiveness, suitable for medium and large edible oil processing plants.

2. Hydraulic oil press

The hydraulic system generates high pressure to directly squeeze the oil, preserving the nutrition and flavor to the maximum extent.

Applicable oils: sesame, walnut, pine nut, coconut kernel and other oils with high price, small output and high quality.

Applicable scenarios: More suitable for small workshops, high-end cold-pressed oil production, and fine edible oil processing

Main advantages: clear oil color, pure taste, easy operation, safe and controllable

Investment cost: The price of a single unit is relatively high, but it can guarantee the quality of oil products and is suitable for high value-added markets.

How to choose?

1. If you run a medium to large oil mill that mainly produces bulk oilseeds (soybeans, sunflower seeds, rapeseed, peanuts) → We recommend a screw oil press.

2. If you are focused on the high-end edible oil market (fine cold-pressed oils such as sesame oil, walnut oil, linseed oil, etc.) → hydraulic oil press is recommended.

3. If you plan to expand gradually from a small oil mill → You can start with a hydraulic press and then upgrade to a screw press to achieve scale.
